Today I saw my new Respiratory Consultant and a very productive meeting it was too. He has told me to stop reducing the steroids I am to allow my body time to catch up, and has booked me in for another chest scan. This makes a lot of sense as my last one was back in February, and they need to see what effect the steroids have had on the granulomas in my lungs. He also repeated my blood tests to check for vasculitis, and going by the number of bottles the nurse needed pretty much everything else.
He also explained that some of my ongoing symptoms could be down to the steroids I am on, especially the fatigue and swelling on the sides of my face (I look like a chipmunk), which I kind of knew but it was good to have it explained. He also explained that these symptoms may continue for a while even if I come off of the steroids. Not what I wanted to hear granted, but at least now I know what to expect.
There is also the chance that the symptoms are related to Wagners, but he made it clear that he would leave that diagnosis down to my other consultant, and that he would focus on the Sarcoid. This is reassuring as it does get awfully confusing when multiple Doctors start trying to treat one thing, as they often have different approaches.
Now the best news of all is to do with my old nemesis, time. I was all ready for him to say “..and we will see you in 4-6 weeks” but no. He said that he would arrange the scan in the next week, and see me the week after.
YIPPEE! Someone who finally gets it!
