Quite a while ago my father mentioned a really annoying problem he was experiencing with his Windows 7 laptop. When ever he was typing an email, editing a word document, or in fact working on anything text based, the cursor would jump randomly around the screen, causing him to type in the wrong place.
Watching him type it was quite easy to see that as a touch typer his hands always returned to the centre of the keyboard, and I reasoned that either his thumb pads were touching the laptops touch pad, or the heat from his hands was being interpreted as a touch.
After a little research I found the application touchfreeze a Google code project. touchfreeze is available for download as an .msi file that once installed sits in the Windows system tray. When you type touchfreeze automatically disables the laptops trackpad resolving, or greatly reducing, the problem.
Downloading and Installing touchfreeze
touchfreeze can be downloaded from Google’s download page at http://code.google.com/p/touchfreeze/downloads/list.
Once downloaded locate the .MSI and simply double click it and follow the installation wizard. The application will be installed and set to run on system start up, no configuration is required.
